FRIENNDS of Northport, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization incorporated under the Non-Profit Law of New York State.  All contributions are income tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
"Foundation for Resources In the East Northport and Northport District Schools."
Our Mission is to provide support to Northport - East Northport UFSD. In accordance with our by-laws, our purpose is "to provide financial and creative support for the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District’s educational and extra-curricular programs, by mobilizing available resources, and by fostering partnerships between and among Northport-East Northport Union Free School District programs, the community, business and industry."
The History of FRIENNDS:

FRIENNDS was the result of a group of community residents who were interested in being a part of the solution to the funding crisis facing public schools in New York State.  It was incorporated in November 2006.  We have grown since that time to support several important initiatives.
  • The Cookie Fund is a partnership with members of the community who wish to honor the memory of Cookie Amato, the beloved nurse at Fifth Avenue School, by providing support to needy children and families in our community.
  • The Graves Fund is a partnership with Adam Graves and also seeks to provide financial support to the needy members of our community.
  • FRIENNDS has become a partner with the Northport - East Northport Drug and Alcohol Task Force and looks forward to working with the task force to bring grant funds to the community to support our efforts to eliminate substance abuse.
  • We have honored many noteworthy citizens of Northport who have earned the title "FRIENND of the Community" and were presented with an award emblematic of their service at one of the two Gala Dinners we have organized.
  • We have made a donation to the school district enabling the purchase of a new sound system for the gymnasium at Northport High School.

All of these initiatives are important.  However, with the possible advent of a tax cap in New York State similar to Proposition 13 which decimated the schools in California years ago, FRIENNDS will be positioned to make a significant contribution to the education of our children should it become necessary, as it did in California, for a private foundation to step in and protect the educational system from the ravages of funding cuts.
